But, can we find the actual location of Mount Sinai today? And while research points to various possible locations for the biblical Mount Sinai, we shall consider here the three most known and documented options. And even though scholars differ as to the exact route the Israelites took during their Exodus from Egypt, this location has long been accepted as the actual site by many scholars of the main faith traditions including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Catherine was built at the foot of the mountain in AD. Many of our Sar-El groups visit this site during their Holy Land pilgrimages, and their experience is always a profound one. Contrary to Christian traditions, the Jewish views regarding the exact location of Mount Sinai are quite vague.
Contrasting the powerful displays which accompanied the receiving of the Law at Mount Sinai, now God is revealing Himself to His servant the prophet, at the very same mountain, through a still small voice that can only be heard in the human heart. The events that took place at Mount Sinai made it holy, but once the Torah was given and the covenant was established, Mount Sinai was just another mountain. After claiming in to have discovered the Red Sea crossing at Newaba in the Gulf of Akaba the eastern branch of the Red Sea , Wyatt concluded that the real Mount Sinai must be located east from the path of the miraculous Red Sea crossing, in the territory of western modern-day Saudi Arabia.
The best possibility, Wyatt thought, was Jebel al-Lawz, because it presented the highest peak in the entire western Saudi Arabian mountain range.
In Wyatt and his two sons illegally crossed into Saudi Arabia to explore and photograph the area, but they were captured, their films confiscated, and they actually were jailed for 78 days by the Saudis as Israeli spies. It angers me that people call Ron Wyatt a con man. Gimme a break! Anyone with half a brain and a little common sense can see that the house is ablaze!
Ron Wyatt was a sincere, humble, and honest man. It is easy to see that his motivation was NOT fame and fortune. It seems to me that it is just like the devil to try to discredit and invalidate Mr. Wyatt for the very reason that everything that he did say that he discovered is the truth.
Wyatt said he found Mt. And if any of it turns out to be incorrect ultimately it will not be because of dishonesty. Jesus walked the earth 33 years not a hundred. The only problem is that it is literally far fetched: The distance is about km miles from Eilat. There are some interesting aspects: According to Exodus it took 60 days for Israel from Egypt to Sinai: that might be possible for the front group of that caravan. I assume that the exodus population was far less than , men others — probably they did not use our based numerical system for census.
Maybe total max 30, people as they camped near Jabal Haylan? And for Elijah it took 40 days to get there in 1 Kings , but he was a man in a good shape 1 Kings This area might be worth of some preliminary surface survey. I just wonder could archaeologists find remains of an encampment or settlement there that existed around BC and had more than average of Egyptian items? Also the eruption time of that Volcano should be double-checked with the modern methods.
Mount sinai has to be in israel. Perhaps the biggest miss understanding is the location of egypt. In hebrew it is written that mitzraim egypt had several sons. So when we are talking about the nation of egypy this includes the philistines. They israelites dwelt in egypt years. Isaac was born in grar of the philistines since his time the israelittes dwell in egypt.
So i beleive egypt is one of the other brothers of the philistines who dwelt near by. In jerusalem. Moses says that he will travel 3 days journey to worship god. I beleive moriAh and sinai are the same..
I beleive sinai and moriah and bet el are all the same mountain in israel. The garden of eden where gos choose to establish his name. Mount meron northern israel is the only mountain that can claim two of jacobs pillars that he built in bet el.
Rachel was burried after they left bet el. Nahal amud is the pillar of rachel. The gilead happens to also be called gilgal rephaim or rujm el hiri and matches the description of being west of the gilgal in deuteronomy When Moses ran out of Egypt after killing the guard he fled into Midian. For the land of Egypt included the Sinai. So when the Israelite came out of Egypt they crossed the red sea into Midian were Moses got married and worked the land ,as he knew the land well there.
You are all wrong. Ex Now the lord led them not by way of the philistines although it was closer. If they were coming from egypt to sinai or even saudi arabia neither way is closer if they passed the philistines who dwelt in by the western sea. Therefore mount sinai must be north of philistines. In otherwords in canaan. This is the riddle nobody can figure out. Mount meron is the real mount sinai.
The investigation and study of Har Karkom has been the life work of Emmanuel Anati, an year-old Italian archaeologist who has been documenting finds at the site for more than 30 […]. If we read the Bible, that is if we read the Bible, then Mt. Sinai has to be in the Land of Midian. Where is the land of Midian? Check your map, it is in Arabia. As for Mt. Karkom, yes!
They thought Jabel el Lawz was the biblical Mt Sniai because the high peak of the mountain range was distinctly black. It looked as if it was solid coal. The very top portion of the entire range had been evenly scorched.. At the foot of the mountain Ron Wyatt found columns similar to the large Egyptian columns in Egypt.
These were markers for a fence or border. Each was 18 ft. In Ex 19 ti tells of how a border should be put to be sure no one crossed to step on the mountain or they would die. The columns were buried only the tops showed. The Saudis do not want tourists nosing around so they could only dig around one to see what it was..
They told a Soudi Archeologist about some rock drawings of Egyption cattle.. Right after that the Saudis built a guard station and put a fence all around so no one would explore. The Saudi Bedowins call it the mountain of Moses. You are incorrect about Sinai. Sometimes, a thunderstorm is just a thunderstorm. The Exodus of the Children of Israel is my favorite Bible story. The story is so wonderful and I truly want to believe it occurred just as it is described in the scriptures.
Yet no matter how much we search for its certain archaeological evidence it alludes us. What then are we left to conclude? Does no archaeological evidence exist? If so, then why? Was it simply because the footsteps of a pastoral people quickly disappeared in the harsh environment?
Or perhaps evidence still exists that is yet to be discovered. My take is that after all this time if we cannot even agree on where Mt. Sinai is then we may never be able to prove that the Exodus as described even occurred at all. Personally I still believe in the traditional location at Jebel Musa. That image of rock art is actually a Judaic horned altar. Kyle McCarter Jr.
Mount Sinai is arguably one of the most valuable places mentioned in the Bible. Some believe it is located in Saudi Arabia because Moses fled in that direction during his exile.
Modern archaeologist, Emmanuel Anatim, is convinced that he has found the Biblical Mount Sinai at Har Karkom because he feels that some rock art at this location has biblical motifs. This is a 2,foot ridge in the southern Negev. Even with these modern findings, the exact location of the biblical Mount Sinai is still up for debate.
We first read of Mount Sinai in Exodus The Israelites had been out of Egypt for three months and came to the desert Sinai. The people camped by the mountain and God spoke to Moses. The people washed their clothes and were consecrated and on the third day the Lord came down on the mountain. God is so holy that if anyone even touched the bottom of the mountain, that person would be put to death.
On the third day, there was thunder and lightning, a cloud over Mount Sinai, and a loud trumpet. The mountain was hidden with smoke because God came down in fire. Moses heard God call him up. He was given guidelines for the people and the priests. Moses then brought Aaron up with him. The Lord spoke the commands to Moses, and he wrote them down. Chapter after chapter we see instruction and order being given from God.
Once we get to Exodus 32 , we read about the golden calf idol with Aaron. The Israelites got tired of waiting and took matters into their own hands. God appears, speaks, and instructs the Israelites on what following God would look like for them and their descendants.
Mount Sinai was a sacred place where Moses went to physically be with God while leading the Israelites from their captivity. This mountain, according to Rabbis , has three other names that help define the significance of the location. Mountains are referenced throughout Scripture.
God tends to show up to people on mountains. Throughout the Old Testament, God invites people to meet him on the mountain. Noah is rescued from the flood on a mountain Genesis 8 , Moses encounters God on the mountain, and God appears to Elijah on Mount Horeb 1 Kings These are just a few examples of how the high places are singled out as a meeting place with the Lord.
In the New Testament, Jesus retreats to the mountains for rest and reflection, appoints his twelve disciples on a mountainside, preaches on the Mount of Olives, and dies on a hill outside of Jerusalem. When Jesus is resurrected, he meets his disciples on a mountain in Galilee. Mountains are stable and unmoving, and God wants us to be reminded that he is the same for all time.
We can depend on him. On the other hand, Jesus speaks of mountains being moved by our faith Matthew This is impossible by human standards, but God wants us to know that with him, all things are possible.
